1st 9 Weeks:

1.11  Recognize symbols and practices that foster patriotism in the US.

1.1  Interpret information in picture timelines to show sequence of events and distinguish among past, present, and future.

1.3  Discuss lives of people associated with Columbus Day.

 

2nd 9 Weeks:

1.2  Describe stories of American leaders and their contributions to our country with emphasis on George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington Carver, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

1.1  Interpret information in picture timelines to sequence of events and distinguish among past, present, and future.

1.7  Explain goods and services and how people are consumers and producers.

1.8  Explain how people make choices and can’t have all wants.

1.9  Recognize saving money for future purchases of goods and services.

 

3rd 9 Weeks:

1.4  Develop map skills (symbols, land, water, cities, and roads, cardinal directions).

1.5  Construct a simple map using basic map skills in a map legend.

1.4  Develop map skills by identifying US and VA on maps and globes and locating Washington D.C. as the US capital and Richmond as Virginia’s capital on a US map.

1.3  Discuss lives of people associated with President’s Day.

1.2  Describe stories of American leaders and their contributions to our country with emphasis on George Washington.

 

4th 9 Weeks:

1.6  Describe how location, climate, and surroundings affect how people live, their clothing, food, shelter, transportation, and recreation.

1.17  Recognize that communities in Virginia have local governments, benefit from volunteers in their communities, include people with diverse ethnic origin, customs, and traditions that make contributions to community and are united as Americans by common principles.
